The Hummingbird Sips The Nectar

Joined Hands
Out of fear or fidelity, humans of faith and desire visit the house of gods,
Like each nectar tastes different, each faith is cased differently.
As you sink into my sweet syrup without doubt, many are blinded by sweet promises.
When in love, the imperfections are forgotten. So when the bait is God, he is all benevolent.
Do not chirp about the millions of grumbling bellies and raimentless wanderers, ’tis God’s test, his plan, a tinge of karma, they say.
In your ceaseless hunt for petunias, there may not be time for prayer.
But aren’t you worried about things beyond sipping and nesting? Perhaps about climate change? If not, at least about me, a human, the devil who could cage you forever?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, sitting on my finger, sips the nectar.
Open Curtains
Social media are flocked with the rarities of life.
Glasses of gin & tonic seem more abundant than glaciers of freshwater.
Human life isn’t always sipping nectars you see; hence, like you chirp chirp chirp, we click click click, tattooing sweet memories in the digital clouds, for the nectar to be tasted by other thirsty eyes, igniting new cravings and desires.
Do you tweet other birds about what you sipped? Do you store some nectars in the real clouds?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, sitting on my finger, continued to sip the nectar.
Pursuits of Prestige
Billions float amidst the inequalities of income and power.
A degree, a promotion, a bonus or a pat on the back ignite pride. With a pinch of command, vanity blooms.
What do you feel when you get more nectar than the ruby-necked one?
Do you nail your prized catches on the tree bark like humans do on the walls?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, sitting on my finger, continued to sip the nectar.
Multiply And Divide
Unlike 350 or more species of hummingbirds, there’s just one species of humans alive today!
But that one species learned math, so we like to divide, and thus we split the land into countries.
Borders were once defined by knives and guns, but now with money — humans favourite nectar.
Black and white are simply colours in the east but brutal history in the west. And I better not speak of caste in the east.
Do you divide the forest with other birds? Does seeing the white-necked jocobin send shivers down your wings?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, sitting on my finger, continued to sip the nectar.
The Flying Time
Health, wealth, and love. Oh yes, this year will be different and let me start anew today.
But then Google comes with a calendar and there are days and weeks to schedule.
Many humans come with a 3-month plan to a 5-year plan. Some even have after-death plans, you know!
With beliefs in an afterlife, reincarnation, or heaven, humans have plenty of time, an eternity.
How do you fly 2000 miles without maps? Do you ponder where you will be tomorrow, at this very minute?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, sitting on my finger, continued to sip the nectar.
Close-Knit Species
With no schools, mentors, and professors, how stupid humans would be!
Even to walk we needed another. Life without a shot of polio is tough to imagine.
Like hospitals to revive, and portfolios to retire, humans need one another.
And I wonder how you always live alone? Do you know any hummingbirds with mental health trouble? Premature greying perhaps?
Thus I thought, while the hummingbird, after sipping all the nectar between my fingers, took one last look at my nostrils and sensing nothing but air, flew away to the abyss in search of more sweetness.
